Oak Farm - Work Started
Work has started on Oak Farm in Dunnington, York to convert and extend redundant agricultural buildings into a family home.
The site is located East of Dunnington village adjacent to the Hagg Wood community woodland via Intake Lane. Oak Farm is part of the original Hagg Farm which has since been divided to include Blue Bell Barn, Hagg Farmhouse and Oak Farm. According to the City of York 2018 Local plan the site falls within the designated Green Belt.
Our client will extend and renovate the farm buildings, retaining & repairing as much of the original structures and character as possible, including the 2 storey barn albeit with new glazing to the fan light gable shown in the images below. A new structure will re create the previously removed link between the two storey buildings on the site. The end result will be a superb 5 bedroom family home.
York Architectural Trust provided a Heritage Statement during the planning process and identified tadpole shaped charring marks on the timber trusses (images below) widely described as taper burn marks. There types of markings are generally interpreted as ritual protection marks against lightening and fire. Their purpose was to act as a sympathetic magic to ward off malignant or accidental fires. The client will retain these historic features as a talking point in their new home
Local firm York builder commenced ground works 2 weeks ago and have already made significant progress, watch this space for more updates about this exciting project.
