Vincent & Partners were delighted to put forward proposals for the redevelopment of a former working men’s club in York city centre. The scheme was granted full planning permission to restore the now dilapidated Grade II listed Georgian property back to its former glory, and create 16 new, luxury apartments within the space.
Formerly New York Club Institute, the building has been the subject of extensive and unsympathetic alterations over its 90-year history. Following a detailed assessment of the historic site, our team submitted design proposals drawing on the principles of conservation and repair, ahead of replacement and renewal. The scheme proposed to sensitively rejuvenate the characterful building by reinstating the original layout and restoring and renovating the property’s key features, indicative of the Georgian era.
The proposals are set to reopen a large carriageway that historically ran through the centre of the building and utilise it to provide access to a new-build apartment block. Situated at the rear of the site where a warehouse and former stables once stood, the new 3-storey building will house 8 luxury apartments, in addition to a further 8 created within the Georgian property. The scheme presents an imaginative and considered solution to secure the future of one of York’s most celebrated heritage buildings and create residential opportunities to be enjoyed for years to come.
