Brackenhill
A bespoke scheme to design and construct an eco-friendly, modern family home in a rural setting on the outskirts of York. An atypical residential brief, the site was formally occupied by commercial premises and included an area of hard standing.
With sustainability and green living at the core of the project, Vincent & Partners put forward proposals to create a modern and striking new home. Formally occupied by a Taxi Office, our team successfully gained planning consent from York City Council to demolish the disused commercial unit and erect a new-build dwelling on the site in March 2018. We provided full architectural services on the project.
The client was keen to explore sustainable construction methods to realise their vision of an eco-friendly dwelling that was practical, achievable and long-lasting. With a diverse portfolio of residential projects under our belt, we delivered a scheme with craftmanship, simplicity and surprise. Most notably, surpassing our client’s expectations by unlocking spatial flow, removing barriers between home and garden and emphasising connectivity throughout.
With clerestory windows, open-plan living, floor to ceiling glazing with feature planting and clean lines throughout, Brackenhill is undeniably an exceptional solution to the dilemmas of modern family life.Beneath the striking veneer, our team cleverly incorporated a super-insulated, precision-engineered timber frame, alongside an MVHR unit, to address ventilation issues often associated with modern, airtight properties. Furthermore, a BioDisc treatment plant was installed to lower running costs and allow wastewater to efficiently discharge into the local watercourse.
Brackenhill was completed in June 2019.
