Heworth Green
A masterplan developed for a seven-acre brownfield site to the east of York City Centre. The site of a former gas works, Heworth Green was identified in York’s draft Local Plan as a key site for residential development.
The complex site will require initial works to replace existing gas infrastructure, complete groundworks and remediation, to pave the way for the new development. The proposed scheme will deliver more than 600 new homes on the site which received Outline Planning Approval in March 2020. The project represents a significant opportunity to transform the derelict industrial site and create a vibrant, residential community. Incorporating a plethora of communal green space to be enjoyed by all, the development has been designed with wellness and recreation at its heart.
The Design Code within the Outline Application sets the framework and guidance for future detailed applications, to create a legible design that addresses the fragmented urban environment within its geographical and historic setting. The development has been subdivided into three distinct zones each with its own architectural character, in response to the differing landscapes and adjacent context.
The Vincent & Partners team led the design team through the planning Pre-application and Outline Application processes, and are now working towards a Reserved Matters Planning Application before the end of 2020.
