Main Street, Skipwith
The site was a vacant plot of land formerly an orchard to the adjacent farm and is located off of Main Street, Skipwith. Located minutes away from the Skipwith Common National Nature Reserve, the 2-storey dwelling incorporates 5 generous double bedrooms and includes a detached triple garage.
The design drew on inspiration from the agricultural and rural setting of the village and neighboring houses, whilst responding to the needs of the client and their family. The spacious dwelling provides a contemporary family home with elements of traditional detailing in a highly sought-after area, incorporating open plan living areas, floor-to-ceiling height windows promoting views outward on to open farmland.
The design and modern interpretation of an agricultural building proposes the use of a mix of red brick similar to that found on properties throughout the village and the addition of timber cladding, with a combination of pitched and hipped roofs to reflect the varying styles within the village.
The Vincent & Partners team provided full architectural services taking the project from inception in 2020 to completion 2022.
The Planning Application was recommended for approval by planning officers with the final decision being referred to Planning Committee in November 2020. The application had its complexities due to the site sitting outside of the Development Limits for Skipwith, however the application was successfully approved at the Committee meeting and represents a huge step forward with regards to how the council respond to development outside of the limits, of which it is clear from this outcome that development of this kind can be considered acceptable in certain circumstances.
