Oak Farm, Dunnington
Vincent & Partners assisted private clients to convert and extend redundant agricultural buildings at Oak Farm, Dunnington to create a stunning family home.
The site is located East of Dunnington village adjacent to the Hagg Wood community woodland via Intake Lane. Oak Farm is part of the original Hagg Farm which has since been divided to include Blue Bell Barn, Hagg Farmhouse and Oak Farm. According to the City of York 2018 Local plan the site falls within the designated Green Belt.
in 2020 we helped our clients gain planning consent to extend and renovate the farm buildings, retaining & repairing as much of the original structures and character as possible, including the 2 story barn albeit with new glazing to the fan light gable shown in the images below. A new structure also re creates the previously removed link between the two story buildings on the site.
York Architectural Trust provided a Heritage Statement during the planning process and identified tadpole shaped charring marks on the timber trusses (images below) widely described as taper burn marks. These types of markings are generally interpreted as ritual protection marks against lightening and fire. Their purpose was to act as a sympathetic magic to ward off malignant or accidental fires. The client decided to retain these historic features as a talking point in their new home.
Following planning consent, Vincent & Partners completed building regulation drawings and assisted with appointing local firm York Builder to carry out the construction. Full stage 5 services, including contract admin was provided by our team meaning we saw the project from inception to completion by 2023.
The end result is a superb 5 bedroom family home as can be seen from these images.
